Shine a Light Appeal
Information on how you can support the Shine a Light Appeal.

Funds raised by Dublin and Glendalough’s ‘Shine a Light for the Diocese of Jerusalem’ appeal will focus on reconstruction and the diocese’s ministries which will support people impacted by the Israel–Gaza war once the war has ended.
Following discussions with representatives of the Diocese of Jerusalem, it has been agreed that Dublin and Glendalough should direct funds raised to support the diocese’s humanitarian response in the post–war period.
The diocese owns and runs Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, the only Christian hospital in Gaza. The hospital serves people from all backgrounds and at times during the recent war was the only hospital operating in northern Gaza thanks to the incredible courage and dedication of its staff.
The Shine a Light Appeal has been running since Advent 2023 and to date it has raised in excess of €260,000. This is thanks to the enormous generosity of the people and parishes of Dublin and Glendalough and across the wider Church of Ireland as well as many from beyond the Church of Ireland.

The United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough and the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem have had a formal link of friendship and solidarity since Epiphany 2016. As well as fundraising to support the diocese’s many outreach ministries, the Link supports the building of friendships and understanding between the two Anglican dioceses. Clergy from both dioceses have taken part in joint retreats together and lay people from Dublin and Glendalough have taken the opportunity to study in St George’s College in Jerusalem.
Apart from Al Ahli Arab Hospital, the Diocese of Jerusalem also runs a number of hospitals and clinics in the West Bank as well as the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre, a child rehabilitation centre for children with disabilities from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem.
The Diocese also works with other Christian Churches in the Region and through the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem supports Christians communities who are under severe pressure in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as well as in Gaza.
