New Canons for Christ Church Cathedral
It was announced today that the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill has appoined the Revd Mark Gardner, Dean's Vicar of Christ Church Cathedral and the Revd Robert Deane, Rector of Swords and Donabate Canons of Christ Church Cathedral.
They will replace the Revd Canon Ivor Power and the Revd Canon Tom Haskins, who have both retired.
The Revd Mark Gardner
The Revd Mark Gardner was born in 1958. He studied in Trinity College Dublin where he graduated with a BA in History in1980, and was conferred with an MA in 1983 and a Diploma in Theology in 1983. He was ordained a Deacon in 1983 and a Priest in 1984. His first appointment was as Curate in St Patrick's, Ballymacarrett in Down and Dromore where he served from 1983-1987. From there he went on to serve a further Curacy in St Stephen's with St Luke's, Belfast (Diocese of Connor) and a member of the Columbanus Community of Reconciliation from 1987-1989 before continuing his ecumenical work in Sunderland team ministry (Diocese of Durham) from 1989 to 1995.
In 1995 he returned to Ireland to become Rector of Santry with Glasnevin and Finglas in Dublin, where he served until 2001 While there he also served as Priest Vicar and Chapter Clerk in Christ Church Cathedral. In 2001 he was appointed Dean's Vicar of Christ Church Cathedral and he has served in that capacity since. He is a member of the Dublin Council of Churches.
The Revd Robert Deane
The Revd Robert Deane was born in 1952. After study he was ordained a Deacon in 1985 and a priest the following year. From 1985 to 1988 heserved as Curate in Raheny and Coolock before going on to become Rector of Clonsast with Rathangan and Thomastown in the Diocese of Meath and Kildare. He was a Canon of St Brigid's Cathedral, Kildare from 1997 to 2000 and Trim Cathedral from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he was appointed Rector of Swords with Donabate and Kilsallaghan. In that capacity he also serves as Chaplain to St Ita's Hospital in Portrane. He is also Rural Dean of Fingal.
He is married to Anne and they have one daughter, Sarah
