New Archbishop of Dublin & Glendalough Begins Role Today
The Most Revd Dr Michael Jackson will today, Monday 11 April 2011, take up his position as Archbishop of the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough.
Archbishop Jackson was elected as the new archbishop on 2 February of this year, following the retirement of Archbishop John Neill, with the election approved by the House of Bishops thereafter. Dr Jackson has been Bishop of Clogher since 2002 and said farewell to parishioners from across the diocese at a special service in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen last night. Archbishop Jackson will be enthroned in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin on Sunday, 8 May at 4:00pm.
Archbishop Jackson said today, "I am greatly looking forward to working in Dublin and Glendalough dioceses. I also wish to thank the people and clergy of Clogher diocese for nine happy and fulfilling years. The challenges and opportunities ahead are many. Meeting the people who form the church and the community is my priority."
