Theologian James Alison to visit Ireland
The Catholic theologian, priest and author James Alison will visit Ireland in late June. Alison is perhaps best known for his work in applying the insights of French philosopher René Girard to theology and also for his long track record in attempting to talk truthfully about matters gay in the Church. His 2001 volume 'Faith Beyond Resentment' was described by Rowan Williams as “a book of wit, clarity, depth and surprises” while Timothy Radcliffe has acclaimed Alison’s “brilliant combination of scholarship and encounter with God in the ordinary life of the Church”.
James Alison will speak at two public events in Dublin. On Wednesday 29 June he will lead a retreat at the Sophia Wisdom Centre (Cork Street) from 10.00am to 4.30pm. The theme of the day will be: 'Loving the Church and Surviving in the Church: Why Bother? A Gay Perspective'. Booking is essential and can be made by email: jamesalisonindublin@gmail.com or by telephone: 086 398 9309. The €30 fee (€15 concessions) includes a light lunch and can be paid on the day at the door. All are welcome.
