Whitechurch wins ‘Beautiful South Dublin’ award
Whitechurch Parish has scooped an award in the annual ‘Beautiful South Dublin’ competition. The church and churchyard won the ‘Best Biodiversity’ award in the contest which is run by Dublin City Council. The competition seeks to honour businesses, housing schemes, estates and community institutions in South Dublin which work to enhance their own properties and envrionment. The parish was presented with the award at a ceremony in County Hall in Tallaght before Christmas.
This is the second year in a row the parish has been successful in the competition. Last year they entered the competition for the first time and received three awards including ‘Best Biodiversity’, highly commended in ‘Best Environmental Youth Initiative’ and highly commended in the ‘Best New Entry’ category.
Presenting the awards, Mayor Caitriona Jones said “It is encouraging to see the number of entries received for the ‘Beautiful South Dublin’ County Competition, and indeed the range of categories representing residential, business, and community initiatives.”
Earlier last year, Whitechurch received the Churches ‘Eco–Congregation’ (Ireland) award, which was the successful culmination of fulfilling the requisite processes and procedures laid down for such an award. Whitechurch was the first Church of Ireland parish in the Republic to receive this award.
