BACI Conference – “The Bible in the Church of Ireland”

The Biblical Association for the Church of Ireland (BACI) and the Church of Ireland Theological Institute (CITI) are hosting a day–conference on “The Bible in the Church of Ireland” on April 21 2012 at CITI in Dublin. The event features Professor David Ford of Cambridge University, Professor Gordon McConville of Gloucestershire University, and Mr Stephen Lyons of the Anglican Communion Office and the Bible in the Life of the Church (BiLC) project, as well as a bishop’s panel featuring the Most Reverend Archbishop of Dublin and Right Reverend Bishop of Cashel and Ossory.

Through the conference BACI hopes to spark renewed and serious discussion within the whole Church of Ireland on how the Bible is, could and should be read and how improvements could be facilitated.

The conference will also continue BACI’s attempts to interact with the BiLC project, which was begun through the Lent 2011 study on creation and the Lent 2012 study on economic justice. They hope this event can foster discussion on what it means to have an “Anglican” biblical hermeneutic.

The preliminary results of the feedback received on the 2012 Lent course on Economic Justice will be available at the event which will also function as an inaugural AGM for BACI, so that a committee can be elected by a wider representation of the Church of Ireland.

BACI has the patronage of their Graces, the Archbishops. They would like to invite all Church of Ireland clergy and laity to attend the conference in April. BACI is intended to represent all of the Church of Ireland, and not just the diocese of Dublin.
