Glenageary Parish Celebrates as New Hospital Wing Opens in Uganda
Parishioners and friends of St Paul’s Parish in Glenageary celebrated the fruits of their labour following the completion of a new theatre building at Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda. The new theatre block, named St Patrick’s Building, was funded by the hard work of the south Dublin parish. They raised €200,000 for the construction of the new building and the training of an additional surgeon for the hospital. The work on site was supervised by retired engineer and St Paul’s parishioner, David Barrett.
The celebration evening was organised to thank all those who contributed to the project. David Barrett was presented with a framed picture of the hospital to mark his tremendous contribution to the project. “Without David’s contribution this project would not have been built,” Michael Webb, chairman of the Kisiizi Support Group, remarked.
St Paul’s Parish has committed to supporting the final year of training of Dr Robert, who will return to Kisiizi as a fully trained surgeon. The parish will also fund his salary for the next three years.
