Art of the Divine Exhibition Opens in Christ Church

A new exhibition featuring Romanian glass icon opens in Christ Church Cathedral, tomorrow, Tuesday March 26. Entitled The Art of The Divine, the exhibition is being organised with the support of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Ireland, Parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The official opening will take place at 5.30 pm tomorrow with a welcome by the Romanian Ambassador, Iulian Buga and the Dean of Christ Church, the Very Revd Dermot Dunne. The artist, Theodora Ro?ca, will give a short introductory talk. The exhibition will run until April 7.

Teodora Ro?ca is a painter of iconographic series in wooden churches from Romania. As a technique she uses tempera on glass made with natural pigments.

She was born on October 3 1976 in Cluj–Napoca, Cluj county, Romania. She completed a PhD thesis on Icons of glass from Transylvania 18th–20th century at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, “Babes–Bolyai” University, Cluj–Napoca. She currently studies art at the National University of Arts in Bucharest and is a Graduate from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, Cultural Patrimony Department, “Babes–Bolyai University”, Cluj–Napoca, Romania.
