Reverend Bruce Hayes Welcomed as New Rector of Dalkey

The Revd Bruce Hayes has been instituted as the new rector of Dalkey. The institution was carried out by Archbishop Michael Jackson in St Patrick’s Church, who said in his introduction that it was wonderful to find himself in a full church on a Friday evening in April. He said he was delighted so many had come to the service and that Bruce had come to the parish to fill the vacancy left following the retirement of Canon Ben Neill last year.

The sermon was delivered by the Archdeacon of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Venerable Robin Bantry White, who spoke on the themes of Easter and their relevance to ministry.

He also commended Bruce to his new parishioners saying he had come from a very good training ground in Skibbereen, West Cork. During his time there, the Archdeacon said he had achieved much, including winning a prize at the Skibbereen Show for his onions, playing rugby for Skibbereen and overseeing the Skibbereen Turkey Supper.

Speaking afterwards at a reception in the Northover Hall, Bruce said he was looking forward to working in his new parish. While he was sad to leave his old parishioners in West Cork, he said he had received a fantastic welcome in his new parish.
