Auditions for New Christ Church Cathedral Voluntary Choir Begin Next Week
Christ Church Cathedral Dublin has announced the setting–up of the cathedral’s new Voluntary Choir. The choir will be directed by the cathedral’s assistant organist, David Bremner, who is inviting singers, particularly singers from the parishes of the Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough, to be a part of this exciting project. Some choral experience would be beneficial, although training will be provided.
“We see this as a chance to strengthen the links between the parishes and the Diocesan Cathedral, and for singers from the parishes to become part of our thriving musical community,” Mr Bremner said.
The choir’s musical focus will be on the Anglican choral repertoire; members of the Voluntary Choir will have the opportunity to explore this rich tradition, and to be part of the beautiful Cathedral liturgy.
The choir will sing four services a year in the Cathedral. Each service will be preceded by four weeks of rehearsal. These will take place on Wednesdays from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm in the Cathedral Song School.
There will be a very informal audition for the choir to give the cathedral music team an idea of the voice–type and level of experience of each singer and to give potential new members the chance to get to know the team. Auditions will take place in the week of June 10. The choir’s first rehearsal will be on Wednesday June 19 and they will rehearse from then until their first sung service, which will take place on Sunday July 14.
