Cathedral Libraries and Archives Association Meet in Christ Church Cathedral
The Cathedral Libraries and Archives Association is beginning a three day conference in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, today (Wednesday June 19). The association, which is the principal forum for cathedral librarians and archivists in Great Britain and Ireland, meets annually and every three years has a major conference in an Anglican cathedral. This will be the first time for the association to meet in Ireland and the meeting has been coordinated by Aonghus Dwane who is a member of the Christ Church Culture Committee.
The theme of the conference is ‘The Cathedral as a Focus in a Metropolitan Setting’ and the keynote address will be given by the Archbishop of Dublin. The cultural initiatives of Christ Church will be considered by Dr Kenneth Milne, chairman of the cathedral’s Culture Committee, while the archival interactions between the cathedral and the city will be discussed by the City Archivist, Dr Mary Clark, and the Librarian & Archivist of the RCB, Dr Raymond Refaussé.
Dr Nicola Gordon Bowe will talk about the Arts and Crafts Movement and Dr Michael O’Neill will deal with architecture, while music and liturgy will be discussed respectively by Dr Kerry Houston from the DIT Conservatory and the Dean of Christ Church, the Very Revd Dermot Dunne.
Among the visitors from Britain are the Dean of Worcester, the Very Revd Peter Atkinson, who is chairman of the association, and representatives from Lambeth Palace Library, the National Archives, Westminister Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, London, and Durham, Exeter, Norwich and Oxford cathedrals.
