The Revd Cliff Jeffers Appointed to DIT Chaplaincy
The Revd Cliff Jeffers has been appointed a Chaplain of Dublin Institute of Technology. Cliff, who is currently rector of Athy, will serve as part of DIT’s Chaplaincy Team and will initially have responsibility for the college’s Mount Joy Square and Rathmines campuses. In 2014 DIT will start to move to the new Grangegorman Campus, with Mount Joy Square being the first to relocate.
The role is an ecumenical chaplaincy and Cliff will be responsible for the pastoral well being of all 1,300 students in Mount Joy Square and Rathmines as well as the staff. There are five chaplains altogether in DIT and 23,000 students.
The appointment has been welcomed by the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr Michael Jackson. “The Reverend Cliff Jeffers has exercised a creative and compassionate ministry in Athy. He has engaged with all members of the community with assurance and with an integrated sense of service and leadership,” he stated.
“I am delighted to have nominated Cliff to be Chaplain of Dublin Institute of Technology to serve as a member of the Chaplaincy Team. This Team is comprehensively ecumenical and sensitive to the needs of an Inter Faith community. As all are aware DIT is moving to the Grangegorman site and Cliff will be part of the new life of DIT from the outset. I am sure everyone shares my delight in the next stage if Cliff’s ministry and like me wishes him every blessing,” the Archbishop added.
Cliff said that the appointment presented him with new opportunities although he would miss the parishioners of Athy. “I will be sad to leave Athy but I am looking forward with interest to my new ministry with third level students and staff,” he commented.
Cliff, who is a native of Bandon in County Cork, has spent nine years as rector of Athy. He was previously in Mountrath. He takes up his new post on September 1.
