St Doulagh’s Plans Full Programme for Heritage Week
National Heritage Week begins nationwide on Saturday August 17 and runs until Sunday August 25. During that week the ancient yet vibrant Jewel St Doulagh’s Church on the Malahide Road (R107) at Balgriffin will be leading the way with a full and varied programme.
On Saturday August 17 and 24 the church will be open for guided tours. There will be audio visual displays and stories from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm and from 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm on Sunday August 18 and 25.
On Thursday August 22 there will be guided tours, audio visual displays and stories from 3.00 pm to 10.00 pm with a talk at 8.00 pm by Sr Una Agnew on “The Kavanagh Kink” – an exploration of Patrick Kavanagh’s work and its spiritual implications.
Friday August 23 the church will again be open from 3.00 pm to 10.00 pm with a talk at 8.00 pm by Canon Patrick Comerford, historian and author, on “Celtic Spirituality, Our Heritage”.
Admission is free, however, donations will be welcome towards the upkeep and repair of the church which dates from the 6th century. Parking is available by kind permission in the grounds of St Doulagh’s Park, opposite the church, Bus No’s 42 and 43 from city centre and Swords/Malahide stop outside.
