Howth’s New Intern Deacon Introduced

On September 22 four new Deacons will be ordained in Christ Church Cathedral. They will then become Intern Deacons in parishes in Dublin and Glendalough where they will work until next summer. This week each will be profiled in turn.

Linda Frost has just completed her second year at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute. Following her ordination next month she will be an Intern Deacon at St Mary’s Church, Howth.

Linda is originally from England, but has been living in the Roscommon/Sligo area since 1987. She enjoys music, reading, walking and gardening. Her husband Steve is a paramedic and they have three adult children, two sons–in–law and two grandchildren, with a third due in October.

Since they married, both Linda and Steve have been involved in varying types of church work from Sunday school and youth work to mission trips abroad to Romania and Albania. They have set up a charity in the Philippines called ‘Love in Action’ which enables church leaders and members to avail of leadership training programs held locally for free. Over the last few years around 65 students have graduated annually from the 40 week course.

She worked a long side of a Minister in Sligo for eight years taking care of all the administration and having the general responsibility of the pastoral care of the congregation, in particular of the large group of asylum seekers from the nearby asylum centre, and a wide variety of other church duties.

In recent years before attending the Institute the couple moved to Roscommon (St Coman) where Linda was both a Parish and Diocesan reader in Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh Diocese. She was also the Advertising Manager for ‘The Scribe’ the Diocesan magazine and continues to design the children’s page under the heading ‘Woolly the Sheep and Friends’.

“My husband and I have always felt our calling was to help, support and encourage God’s people both at home and abroad. My ordination is just the next step on that journey for me,” Linda explains.
