Compline to be Sung in Dublin Throughout This Weekend
Church Music Dublin has just announced that a ‘schola peregrina’ will sing the monastic Office of Compline in Dublin three times during this weekend.
They will sing this afternoon, at 5.30 pm in the spacious acoustic of St Andrew’s Church, Westland Row, and tomorrow, Saturday 9 November, in the Georgian splendour of St Werburgh’s Church, off Christ Church Place at 5.30 pm.
The office will include, as an introit, a sonorous setting of ‘Benedicam Dominum’ by the Franco–Flemish composer, Orlande de Lassus (c.1530–94), and will conclude with one of the finest late medieval Marian antiphons in the Eton choirbook: ‘Salve Regina’ by William Cornysh, senior (c.1430–1502), a former ‘Informator choristarum’ at St Peter’s Abbey, Westminster in England.
An then, on Sunday 10 November at 5.30 pm they will sing in the beautifully restored Lady Chapel of St Patrick’s Cathedral.
All are most welcome.
