Final Two Sessions of Living Worship Taking Place
The final two sessions of Church Music Dublin’s 2014 Living Worship series take place tomorrow, Saturday January 25, and next Saturday, February 1, in the Mageough Hall, Cowper Road, Rathmines.
The popular course is designed for musicians, worship leaders (clergy and lay ministers), choir members and all with an interest in the music of worship. Participants will find the sessions stimulating and will meet an interesting group of people. Practical skills are not required to take part.
At the first session on last week Mark Duley talked about the development of Schola Cantorum based in St Nicholas Church, Galway, and provided some useful advice and tips on encouraging people to sing. His emphasis on the value of unison singing for leading a congregation in song was particularly noted.
This Saturday, January 25, Peter Barley, director of music at St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick will focus on ‘successfully introducing new repertoire’. Peter will give tips on teaching new material to a congregation, using material from the forthcoming supplement to Church Hymnal.
On Saturday February 1 Aidan Greene will address the subject of ‘gospel music within liturgy – an Irish perspective’. Aidan is a music teacher in second–level education and former director of Gardiner Street Gospel Choir. There will be an opportunity to learn new music and have a good sing.
The fee per session, which is payable on the day, is €10 / €8 and refreshments are included.
