St Paul’s Choir Sing in Christ Church Cathedral Dublin
As part of a new initiative from the Music Department of Christ Church Cathedral to strengthen relationships between the parishes of the diocese and the diocesan cathedral, a diocesan outreach programme has begun. This includes a Visiting Choirs programme.
Having received an invitation, St Paul’s, Glenageary, and on July 6 became the first choir to sing in the cathedral as part of this new initiative.
Musical director and organist at St Paul’s, Derek Verso, remarked that July 6 arrived all too quickly but added that the service went very well with the choir sounding at its best in the flattering acoustic of the cathedral.
“It was a long morning though with rehearsal starting in the cathedral at 9.30 am, a short break and the service from 11 am. We were also delighted that special permission was given to enable Matthew Breen, our 17 year old organ scholar, to play the entire service on the cathedral organ, under the watchful eye of the cathedral’s assistant organist, David Bremner. A wonderful experience and something we will not forget for a long time. Thank you to the cathedral for a good initiative and thank you to St Paul’s choir for making it work so well,” Mr Verso said.
