Cathedral Urges Support for Gaza and Iraq Humanitarian Crisis Appeal
Christ Church Cathedral is urging people to join them in support of the Bishops’ Appeal campaign to help those caught up in the massive humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Iraq. The situation there is complex at just about every level but what is beyond dispute, is the urgent need for medical supplies and resources to treat the thousands of casualties and this is where the cathedral hopes people can help through contributing to Bishops’ Appeal.
GAZA CRISIS
Since the ground offensive in Gaza began, the humanitarian situation has further deteriorated for people living in this highly populated area resulting in thousands of causalities.
The Diocese of Jerusalem which runs the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza has launched an emergency appeal. This Anglican hospital is doing some amazing work responding to the civilian casualties but was damaged whilst simultaneously being inundated with causalities and people seeking refuge in the hospital grounds. The Jerusalem and Middle East Church Association is helping to facilitate the appeal in Ireland and you can directly help by donating whatever you can.
IRAQ CRISIS
The Bishops’ Appeal is also acting as a conduit for any funds raised for those who have been displaced due to the violence in Iraq. The number of people displaced now exceeds 1.2 million. Funds will be directed towards the Anglican Church in Baghdad which is providing refuge, medical assistance and food relief to many who have fled their homes.
