Final Countdown for Bikers on a Mission as They Prepare to Call to Dublin Cathedrals
Dublin’s two Church of Ireland cathedrals are preparing to welcome the Bikers on a Mission this Saturday, August 9, and they invite the people of Dublin and Glendalough to join them for a short service in each cathedral before they continue on their way.
The Revd Andrew McCroskery, Rector of St Bartholomew’s and Christ Church Leeson Park and the Revd Nigel Kirpatrick, Rector of Gilnahirk in Belfast started their bike run on August 1 with the aim of visiting every Church of Ireland Cathedral on the island to raise awareness and funds for the work of the United Society and its projects in Swaziland.
Their journey marks the 300th anniversary of Us. and in each cathedral Nigel and Andrew are leading or joining a short service with prayers for the charity and its work.
On Saturday morning the ‘Holy Bikers’, as they have been dubbed, will be in St Patrick’s Cathedral at 10.00 am and Christ Church Cathedral at 11.00 am. They would also be delighted to be joined by fellow bikers who would like to accompany them on the next stage of their journey which will take them to Kildare and Trim. Their trip will come to an end on Sunday in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, where they began 10 days earlier.
The United Society is an Anglican missionary society that has worked in partnership with Anglican dioceses throughout the world, sharing the love of God in action and seeing lives transformed. The work is usually with communities that have often been overlooked and which face difficult problems in relation to poverty, education, medical care and social justice issues. They work within already existing communities with churches that are already established to help with the development of local skills and the empowerment of communities to make a lasting change. While the mission partners are Anglican, the United Society is ecumenical in its outlook and also works with other faith communities. In Ireland the United Society works mainly with the Diocese of Swaziland, but also supports work in Zambia and in India (with the Dublin University Mission to Chota Nagpur).
Andrew and Nigel’s progress can be followed on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bikerson.amission.9) and they are on Twitter @BikersOnMission. To find out more about the work of the United Society and to donate see lindaatuspg.blogspot.ie.
