Intern Deacon Alan Breen – Passionate About Seeing People Live Out The Call of God
On Sunday September 21 five new Deacons will be ordained in Christ Church Cathedral. They are Kevin Conroy, David Martin, Alan Breen, Abigail Sines and Cathy Hallissey and they will be Intern Deacons in parishes in Dublin and Glendalough where they will work until next summer. Each has written a piece about themselves and they have been profiled in turn this wee.
Alan Breen
(St Patrick’s, Greystones)
My name is Alan Breen and I am married to Ruth and we have two children, Naomi (9) and Andrew (7). I am originally from Dublin and we’ve been living in Wicklow for the last five years.
I have been involved in full–time ministry for over twenty years now. While working with Revd Dr Trevor Morrow in Lucan Presbyterian Church back in the mid ‘90s, he had encouraged me to think and pray about going into ordained ministry. Over the past five years I have been working in Dunganstown Union of Churches as Youth Pastor with Canon Roly Heaney.
The journey into ordained ministry within the Church of Ireland has been an exciting one and I have learnt so much about God’s heart for me and the call he has in my life. I am just about to start 3rd year in CITI and be an intern Deacon in Greystones with the Revd David Mungavin.
Over the last two years I have done placements in Rathmines with Canon Neil McEndoo, Taney Parish with Canon Robert Warren and Tiglin (which is a Rehab centre for those with addiction issues in Wicklow) with Mr Phil Thompson. I have learnt so much in all these placements (and in CITI) and I am very much looking forward to being with and serving the people in St Patrick’s, Greystones.
I am passionate about seeing people live out the call that God has on their lives and journeying with them in that process. The more I see and experience the love that God the Father has for me and the example Jesus is for my life, the more I desire to see Holy Spirit work among his church and for people in our nation to come into a real relationship with God, through all that Jesus has done for us.
