Statement from the Most Revd Dr Michael Jackson on the Death of Former Taoiseach, Mr Albert Reynolds
Archbishop Michael Jackson (pictured) has expressed his sympathy to the family of former Taoiseach, Mr Albert Reynolds, following his death earlier today.
In his statement the Archbishop acknowledges the courageous and creative work which Mr Reynolds did in enabling peace to come about in Ireland.
He said: ‘I particularly recall the twentieth anniversary of the Downing Street Agreement and the subsequent IRA–loyalist ceasefires, we ought to recognise the contribution made by those who caught the vision of peace across the island of Ireland and gave of themselves to make it a living reality.’
