Social Action Committee Wants to Highlight Parish Work
The Dublin and Glendalough Committee for Social Action issued an appeal at Diocesan Synod this week for parishes to let them know of any special developments. Proposing the committee’s report, Mildred Beresford (Councils) said there was much work going on in parishes and explained that the committee would like to highlight this through the pages of the Church Review.
Mrs Beresford said that the committee, with the help of the Revd Alan Rufli and the Revd Jack Kincade, was working on establishing a Good Neighbour Day which it is hoped will take place early next year.
She highlighted the committee’s forthcoming Suicide Awareness Evening on November 11 at 7.30pm at the Church of Ireland College of Education, Rathmines Upper. The speaker will be Joan Freeman, founder of Pieta House. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Mrs Beresford also paid tribute to the former chairperson of the committee, the Revd Isaac Delamere, and said he was missed.
David Whyte (Councils) spoke about the committee’s Handy to Have leaflet which he said was particularly important for people who might be uncomfortable asking for help. It contains contact details for a range of agencies enabling people to find the information they need. The leaflet can be downloaded from the Dublin and Glendalough website at http://dublin.anglican.org/social-action-committee.php.
Canon Robert Deane (Swords and Donabate) (pictured) highlighted the work of the Protestant Orphan Society and thanked all the parishes who had contributed over the years and encouraged those who hadn’t to do so as he said every child on their roles benefited greatly.
