Care & Share Project – Fund to Assist Struggling Parishes
The United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough is launching a new project to enable parishes that are financially secure assist their counterparts who are temporarily in financial difficulties. The ‘Care & Share’ Project will act as a channelling mechanism to enable parishes with spare funds to contribute to those who are struggling. This will not be a diocesan fund and it will not be funded from existing diocesan funds. Instead, it is a confidential way for parishes to channel funds to other parishes where there is a need.
The idea for the project came out of a willingness of one parish to help another. The vestry in question had agreed to contribute a sum to another parish because they had extra funds, and they had heard that another parish was struggling. However, it was soon recognised that in order for such generosity to be directed to where it was needed most, a structure would have to be put in place.
There is currently no mechanism that allows parishes that feel they have something to spare to help those who don’t. The ‘Care and Share’ Project will operate a year on year fund which will allow monies to be provided to parishes in need.
The fund will be administered through the Diocesan Office and will operate under strict guidelines which will be monitored by Diocesan Councils. They will identify those in need of help and facilitate donating parishes and individuals to support those in need.
Assistance will be given in a confidential way but also care will be taken to ensure that parishes do not become dependent on the fund to meet their needs. It will aim to assist parishes that are temporarily in dire need.
Select Vestries throughout Dublin and Glendalough are urged to put ‘Care and Share’ on their next vestry agenda. Those interested in getting involved in the project or seeking assistance are asked to contact the Diocesan Office by email on
