‘Let’s Go’ – Summer Camp Fun for Dublin and Glendalough Kids
A great group of 10 to 13 year olds from across Dublin and Glendalough gathered in the King’s Hospital School last week for the annual Diocesan Kids Summer Camp.
This year’s camp was co–led by Philip McKinley and the Revd Baden Stanley with assistance from their team. The theme was the missional call ‘Let’s Go’ and during the week the children focused on the lessons to be learned from Matthew’s Gospel.
The action packed week included plenty of games, outdoor pursuits, swimming, music, arts and craft, making friends, laughter and fun. But it also gave kids time to hang out and just relax. There were great adventures in a safe and caring environment and the leaders enabled participants to be themselves and to explore their faith in God.
Every morning the group gathered for discussion in the chapel. The leaders were interviewed about their lives so far and their faith journeys. Also during the week they created prayer stations and banners on the camp theme and the camp concluded with a special service on the final day.
Archbishop Michael Jackson dropped in to the camp on Tuesday afternoon and spoke to the children while they were busy designing a new camp logo. They also had a training session with rugby player, Ian McKinley and made full use of the facilities at the King’s Hospital.
