Early this year, Gary Hastings published the book Going up the Holy Mountain. On the theme of pilgrimage, Gary takes the reader on an exploration of journey and pilgrimage on Croagh Patrick stating: “The Reek itself is a very solid mountain with a long pre–Christian and Christian pilgrimage tradition.”

During the quiet morning on Saturday October 10, Gary will lead three reflections on pilgrimage based on his book and will leave time for each participant to reflect and pray. The morning will start at 10am and finish at 1pm. To book please email the Revd Garth Bunting at garth@christchurch.ie, or ring him on 086 0386415. There is no fee for the quiet morning although there will be an opportunity to leave a donation towards the costs.

Sue Grier of Immanuel Christian Retreat Centre in Donegal led Retreat in the City in the cathedral in 2014. She will be back in Christ Church on Saturday November 21 to lead the second quiet morning for this term.

“Growing Deeper” is the title for the morning when Sue will give guided opportunity to use art and Scripture as we pray. All art materials will be provided and you do not need to be an artist to join in! The morning will start at 10am and finish by 1pm. As well as the sessions, there will be plenty of opportunity for personal prayer and reflection set in the context of the cathedral east end. Please get in touch if you would like to reserve your place. There is no charge for the quiet morning, although an opportunity will be available to leave a donation should you wish.

As well as the quiet mornings, the weekly centring prayer group continues on a Wednesday evening in the cathedral Lady Chapel.  It starts at 7.30pm and finishes by 8.15pm.  To find out more about centring prayer as a method of prayer please visit the website of Contemplative Outreach Ireland, www.coi.ie, or give Garth a ring.

Soon, Garth Bunting hopes to have exciting details about Retreat in the City 2016 available. The date will be February 12 to 14 2016 in the cathedral. It will be non–residential, but as usual, there are a number of reasonably priced hotels close to the cathedral that you can book into. More about all of that soon.
