Filled With ‘Wunder’ – New Comic to Bring Bible Stories to Life for Children
A new comic series which will help children to engage with Bible stories with a sense of wonder and excitement will be launched at the end of this month. Wunderland will be officially launched in Christ Church Bray on November 29.
The monthly comic series is the brainchild of the Revd Baden Stanley, Rector of Bray and Dublin and Glendalough’s Children’s Ministry Coordinator. It is aimed primarily at children aged from eight to 12 years but the comics have been road tested in several schools and children of all ages have enjoyed them.
Wunderland is a place like no other, a place that is filled with magic and delight. It is where Santa Claus lives. A Magic Snowflake introduces the story of how Wonder came to a home in Bray, County Wicklow, to bring forgotten toys to life to help them find the true meaning of Christmas. The toys become part of a very exciting adventure.
Baden’s stories are beautifully illustrated by artist Darren Nesbitt. Together, the words and artwork join with familiar Bible stories to bring wonder and enchantment to a generation of children who are growing up so fast.
“It’s all about getting the stories out there and it’s a different way for children to engage with Bible stories with joy and wonder. They need things to help them reconnect with a sense of wonder excitement,” Baden explains. “The first Narnia Festival in Christ Church Bray captured a need for wonder at a time when things are really tough… this is a chance for people to draw breath and try something new.”
The first edition will be a bumper Advent issue just in time for children and adults to read in the run up to Chirstmas. It will be launched on Sunday November 29 by Archbishop Michael Jackson in Christ Church Bray. The launch will take place at 12.00 noon following the 11.00 am Service of Holy Communion.
Orders for the first issue can be placed by contacting the Revd Baden Stanley at wunderlandtrust@gmail.com or (087) 9484407. Subsequent issues will be available through the website www.wunderlandtrust.com. They will also be available through schools, churches and Sunday Clubs.
The high quality production will cost €5 per issue. Schools that become distribution centres get 10 percent discount.
Anyone who would like to support the project to bring wonder to a new generation can contribute to Wunderland’s GoFundMe campaign at www.gofundme.com/wunderlandtrust.
