Installation of Dignitaries to the Chapter of Christ Church Cathedral
Three recent appointments to the Chapter of Christ Church Cathedral were installed to their stalls at Evensong yesterday (Sunday November 8). Canon Neil McEndoo was installed as Precentor, Canon David Mungavin was installed as Chancellor and Canon Adrienne Galligan was installed as the 12th Canon by Dean Dermot Dunne.
The service was attended by the families and friends of the new dignitaries as well as parishioners who travelled from Rathmines, Greystones and Rathfarnham to support their Rectors.
Canon McEndoo is Rector of Rathmines with Harold’s Cross and before being made Precentor, was Chancellor of Christ Church Cathedral. He succeeds Canon Peter Campion who was recently installed as Precentor of St Patrick’s Cathedral. Following ordination in 1975 he served curacies in Cregagh, Belfast and at St Ann and St Mark with St Stephen, from 1979 until 1982. He moved to Harold’s Cross, which was then part of the Rathmines group of parishes, in 1982. He became Rector of the parish group following the retirement of Canon Watson in 1984. In 1991 he became a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral and in 2005 became Chancellor.
Canon David Mungavin is Rector of Greystones. Prior to ordination in the Scottish Episcopal Church in 1990, he served as an Inspector in the Royal Hong Kong Police. He served in two parishes in Scotland as Rector of Airdrie and Coatbridge from 1992 to 1999 and Troon, Ayrshire from 1999 to 2009. In the Church of Ireland he has been Rector of St Patrick’s Parish in Greystones since 2009. He is also Diocesan Mothers’ Union Chaplain. He succeeds Canon McEndoo as Chancellor.
Canon Adrienne Galligan is Rector of Rathfarnham. Formerly a teacher in East Glendalough School in Wicklow, she was ordained in 2003. She served as Curate Assistant in Seapatrick Parish, Banbridge, for five years and was Rector of St Mary’s Crumlin and St Laurence’s Chapelizod from September 2008 until January 2015 when she moved to Rathfarnham. She is also Taney Rural Dean. She succeeds Canon David Moynan who resigned in September.
Also during evensong yesterday, the cathedral’s bells were rededicated and the bell ringers were blessed and commissioned for the coming year.
