Crinken Plans Spectacular Community Festival to Tell Christmas Story
Christmas is almost here and St James’ Church, Crinken, is preparing to capture the spirit of the season for the whole community. The church is preparing to host a Christmas Tree Festival from December 4 to 6 and a huge range of local community organisations and business are getting involved.
Entitled “Journey to Bethlehem” the festival will tell the Christmas Story in a unique and enchanting way. More than 40 trees will be decorated by local schools, community groups, and businesses.
From six foot natural fir trees, to sculpted ones made from books, tyres and other materials, each will tell, with a Bible Verse, a part of the Christmas story. The trees will include the Shepherd’s Tree, the Journey Tree, the Good News Tree, and the Angel’s Tree.
Trevor Stevenson, Rector at Crinken Church, hopes people from near and far will come and enjoy this cross–community spectacular. “ I was at a wonderful Christmas Tree Festival in Castleblayney last year…it was just breathtaking, and I said then we just have to do this for our community in Shankill. And what better way to round off our Church’s 175 anniversary year than with this amazing event, where so many local people are involved in retelling the Christmas Story in such a unique and wonderful way. Save the dates and come along! It’s for everyone!” he commented.
The Christmas Tree Festival will be open on Friday December 4 between 10.00 am and 9.00 pm; Saturday December 5 from 10.00 am to 9.00 pm; and on Sunday December 6 from 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
Admission is free but donations are welcome to the Store House (the church’s foodbank), and festival expenses. Teas and coffees will be available.
