General Synod 2016 Starts Today in Dun Laoghaire
The General Synod of the Church of Ireland takes place in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire over the coming three days, Thursday May 12 to Saturday May 14 2016. During the three days, elected clergy and lay members along with the Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of Ireland will consider a range of Bills and Motions and hear reports from a number of Church committees.
Before the formal business of Synod got underway the Synod Eucharist took place this morning in St Paul’s Church, Glenageary. The Rt Revd Patrick Rooke, Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, preached. Synod proceedings start at 12.00 noon.
Throughout the next three days you can view reports, news items and photographs to give you a flavour of the life of the annual meetings of Synod at http://synod.ireland.anglican.org/2016/ . This will allow those who are not able to be with us in Dún Laoghaire, and visitors from the wider world, to feel part of the work.
There will be a twitter feed using the hashtag #coigs. This hashtag will also be used for Facebook and Instagram as well as other social media outlets.
A Concert of Choral and Organ Music will take place at St Paul’s, Glenageary on Friday May 13 at 7.30 pm. The concert takes place every year at the beginning of May and all members of General Synod are invited to attend as guests.
