Cathedral Choir Sings Evensong in Blessington
Parishioners of the Blessington Union of Parishes had a wonderful musical treat yesterday (Sunday October 16) when Christ Church Cathedral Choir visited St Mary’s Parish Church.
The choir sang a Festival Evensong in the Blessington church as part of their Diocesan Music Outreach Project. The visit was also part of the Dublin and Glendalough 800 programme. The choir, under the direction of Musical Director and Organist Ian Keatley, was in excellent voice and Assistant Organist David Bremner played St Mary’s recently restored organ.
St Mary’s Church was full for the special occasion and the congregation erupted in spontaneous applause at the end of the service. The Rector, the Revd Leonard Ruddock, thanked everyone for coming to Evensong and thanked the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, the Very Revd Dermot Dunne. “My words can’t say how this has touched me,” he concluded
The Christ Church Cathedral Choir’s Diocesan Music Outreach Project is an ongoing programme which seeks to connect with parishes throughout Dublin and Glendalough and seeks to serve the parishes of the United Dioceses. During the past three years the choir has visited Kilbride Church near Bray, St Maelruain’s Church in Tallaght, St John The Baptist Church in Drumcondra and St Mary’s Church, Howth.
