Walk of Light 2016 – An Inter–Church Journey in Dublin City
Dublin Council of Churches has announced details of its 2016 Walk of Light. This year’s Walk of Light takes place on Sunday November 20 starting at St Teresa’s Carmelite Church on Clarendon Street at 4.00 pm. The pilgrimage will also take in Adelaide Road Presbyterian Church and conclude at Methodist Centenary Church, Leeson Park.
This is the 12th year of the ecumenical journey in which people of all walks of life are invited to join together for the Walk of Light, expressing hope and prayer for light in dark times.
This year’s theme is ‘Do not consider the things of old, I am about to do a new thing’ (Isaiah 43). It will be explored in each of the three host churches along the route as the journey unfolds. All three stops combine to make one liturgy which has been prepared by local groups, lay and clergy, from the different Christian traditions in the area.
The Walk of Light will begin with a welcome and opening prayer in St Teresa’s Carmelite Church on Clarendon Street leaving there at approximately 4.30 pm. The walk will proceed to Adelaide Road Presbyterian Church, arriving at approximately 5.00 pm. Pilgrims will depart from Adelaide Road at about 5.30 pm heading for Methodist Centenary Church on Leeson Park arriving at 6.00 pm. Following the service there, light refreshments will be served.
People are invited to take part in the full walk or simply join a section of it. The Walk of Light is organised in cooperation with the local Church of Ireland, Ethiopian Orthodox, Korean, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian and Roman Catholic congregations.
