Pizza Prayer and Praise – Big Welcome for New Youth Ministry Coordinator
Young people from across Dublin & Glendalough filled a side chapel of Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday evening (October 1) to welcome our new Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator, Susie Keegan.
Susie was formally commissioned by Archbishop Michael Jackson during Choral Evensong earlier in the afternoon but in the evening young people and youth leaders got together at Pizza Praise and Prayer to meet her and pray for her.
Susie said she loved working alongside young people. “You have so much potential. I remember being in secondary school and feeling that I wasn’t good enough and I don’t want anyone else to feel that. I’m here for you and I will do my best for you,” she said.
Young people and youth leaders collaborated in writing a prayer for Susie, thanking God for her gifts and praying for patience, confidence, a big vision and safe driving, among other things.
Susie introduced her lamp, made by her grandad, which she will be bringing to schools and events around Dublin & Glendalough with the message that even in the darkness there is always light. She encouraged everyone to talk about mental health to help shake the stigma attached to mental health issues. People will hang tags on the lamp with their hopes and prayers for someone they know or themselves.
During the evening, there were also prayers of thanks for all the youth leaders who give up their time to help and support young people to grow in their faith and discover God.
