Pamela Campbell retires from the POS Children’s Education Fund
The Board of the POS Children’s Education Fund, formerly the Protestant Orphan Society, recently held a lunch to bid farewell to Mrs Pamela Campbell, who has retired after many years. Her initial involvement in 1979 was as Assistant Secretary, and a few years later she became Secretary, just one capable pair of hands running the office in Molesworth Street. At that time the job included all the dealing with the tenants in the Molesworth Street property, as well as meeting all the applicants and taking responsibility for the finances and the secretarial work.
When the Society moved to Leeson Street the work was a little reduced, but it was still a big task, which Pamela carried out with the utmost efficiency, as well as courtesy and cheerfulness to everyone who came through the door or called on the telephone.
In time, she retired as Secretary, and the Society had great pleasure in making her a member of the Board. In recent years her contribution as a member has been of great value, and it was important to her fellow Board members to assemble to wish her well.
Another recent retirement was Mr Simon McCormick, the longest standing member of the Society’s Committee/Board, who had made exceptional contribution to their work, giving generously of his time and excellent advice.
New members now welcomed on the Board are Joyce Farrelly, Edwin Watters and the Reved Norman McCausland. The Chairman is Glascott Symes and the Secretary is Jennifer O’Regan.
The Board continues to distribute substantial amounts of money to approximately 60 orphans at any one time. It has a considerable amount of invested money, but it also relies heavily on the parishes and individual subscribers to keep up the level of support that is offered. In addition to the POSCEF grants for the maintenance of children they also administer the Meath Trust, which is not limited to orphans and is available to less well–off applicants to assist with education or training.
The Board is always anxious to hear of any new applicants, for either fund. All information is available from the Secretary at 74 Upper Leeson Street, Dublin 4, Phone: 087 9789598 email: info@poscef.org.
