Video: Archbishops of Dublin Lead Good Friday Walk of Witness
The Church of Ireland and Catholic Archbishops of Dublin, Archbishop Michael Jackson and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, led a silent procession through the streets of Dublin yesterday evening (Friday March 30) reminding people of the message of Good Friday.
This is an annual event but for the first time the pubs were open, the Good Friday ban on the sale of alcohol having been lifted earlier this year, and the city was much busier than previous years.
Hundreds of locals and visitors stopped to look at and photograph the large procession as it made its way from Christ Church Cathedral to St Mary’s Pro Cathedral.
The pilgrimage began with a short service in Christ Church Cathedral during which Archbishop Jackson asked for God’s blessing on areas throughout the world where there is conflict and where people are suffering. He also prayed for those who are homeless in Dublin.
Archbishop Martin said it was good on Good Friday evening for both archbishops to walk quietly together through the city and remind people of the importance of the day.
