World Meeting of Families Update
The World Meeting of Families 2018 takes place in Dublin from August 21 to 26. This is a major event in the life of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland and world wide. So far, over 37,000 people from 114 countries have registered to attend the Pastoral Congress in the RDS while all of the 500,000 free tickets for the closing Mass, which will be attended by Pope Francis, have already been booked. This is a significant level of interest and one about which the organisers will undoubtedly be gratified.
The Church of Ireland will have a role to play in the World Meeting with Archbishop Michael Jackson having been invited to participate in a panel discussion in the RDS on Wednesday August 22. Meanwhile, Greg Fromholz, D&G Young Adults’ Officer, is seconded to the World Meeting of Families and is managing the three and a half days of programmes in the Family Arena at the RDS & coordinating/animating the pre and post mass programme at the Phoenix Park.
Dublin & Glendalough Council for Mission had hoped to have a Church of Ireland stand in the RDS, however for operational reasons this is no longer possible. They would like to thank those who made such an opportunity possible. They would like to apologise to those who will be disappointed and wish all in the World Meeting of Families well in their continued planning for the meeting. They would also like to encourage members of the Church of Ireland to attend events and support the World Meeting of Families.
