Archbishop Encourages People of D&G to Visit St Patrick’s Armistice Installation
St Patrick’s Cathedral is the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland and therefore a unique treasure. It is a living place of worship with a creative educational and community outreach programme throughout the year.
But in Dublin & Glendalough how many of us actually think of going to St Patrick’s as our National Cathedral as well as to Christ Church as our Diocesan Cathedral?November 2018 is a perfect opportunity to put this right.
As many of you will have seen, there is a stunning art installation, entitled The Fallen, made up of 36,000 green and white leaves on which individual visitors to the cathedral have written messages in tribute to people who have been caught up in, and often tragically killed in,
conflict worldwide.
These leaves have graced a tree designed by a Dublin metalwork artist since November 2014 and over 200,000 messages have been written during the last four years. The 36,000 leaves hang in the nave and give all who come to St Patrick’s cause to reflect and pause and commemorate the sacrifice of men and women in conflict and war.
As members of the United Dioceses of Dublin & Glendalough please use November
2018 as a time to go to the cathedral and to remember.
