Did you miss Rubicon 2019? Well fear not, the videos from the fantastic event have now been released online. Rubicon 2019’s theme was identity, inclusion and intersectionality. It took place against the backdrop of an Ireland where increasingly uncomfortable questions were being asked of its citizens, with racism and racist attacks on the rise, and an increase in online vitriol promoting an ideal of ‘keeping Ireland Irish’.

The speakers not only challenged perceptions, they opened up opportunities for participants to see how others experience their lives and explore how inclusive Ireland is, even for the Irish.

With the online release you can watch keynote speaker, writer and activist Lisa Sharon Harper talk about the creation of humans in God’s image and the construct of race. You can also see Dublin native and Texas resident, Debs Walker, talk of her work to help prisoners escape the cycle of reoffending. Equality advocate and black studies lecturer, Dr Ebun Joseph talked about race, identity and the lived experience of inequality. Traveller, activist and playwright, Dr Rosaleen MacDonagh, talked about circles of exclusion and the need for people to step out of their comfort zones.

The videos also cover the panel discussion featuring Evaleen Whelton, Kate Bowen Evans and Jenn Clark on identity and inclusion. Rubicon concluded with the phenomenal music of Dana Masters.

You can access the videos on Rubicon’s website www.wearerubicon.com or directly on Youtube here.

There are now 122 Rubicon videos available online covering the enormous range of themes covered by their conferences over the years.

Rubicon is a conversation for those eager to explore how God’s intention is showing up in the lives of their peers and the cultural projects they create. It creates a space where the big questions can be debated.

Rubicon 2020 takes place on Saturday October 10.
