Footwashing at a Time When Handwashing is Key – Archbishop Jackson’s Reflection for Maundy Thursday
As we progress through Holy Week 2020, Archbishop Jackson’s video reflections, “… The Last Lap…”, continue. Today, Maundy Thursday, he looks at footwashing in a time of heightened hygiene when handwashing is our first calling.
Footwashing, in the Gospel reading on Maundy Thursday [St John 13: 1–7, 31b–35] symbolises service. In the days of coronavirus, the Archbishop suggests, serving others is the way forward and compliance with the restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus is in service of the common good and the safety of society.
The Archbishop’s reflection in the video below is accompanied by a reading and prayers let by the Revd Rob Jones and his team from Holy Trinity, Rathmines. A new video will be posted each day, concluding on Easter Day so subscribe to the Dublin and Glendalough YouTube Channel to follow the series.

We are most grateful to Holy Trinity, Rathmines, for enabling the recording of this series to take place – to the Rector, the Revd Rob Jones, for facilitating and introducing the reflections, to Scott Evans and Andy Waller for film and sound, to Christina Evans for some of the readings and Sherry Hazlett–Gallen for the music.
