Children’s Voices Sing Out in St Patrick’s After Six Month Absence - St Patrick’s Cathedral will be open on Culture Night – booking is essential.

On Tuesday 15th September, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, resounded to the strains of children’s voices for the first time in six months, as the boy choristers joined ranks with the Lay Vicars for the Choral Office of Evensong, marking a return to worship with the full choir, in a Covid–secure environment.

It is planned that the choristers will sing Matins at 9.00 am on Tuesday and Thursday each week during term time, and that, while the Lay Vicars sing Evensong on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5.30 pm, the choristers will join them on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as on Sundays at 11.15 am and 3.15 pm.

The Very Reverend Dr William Morton, Dean of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, paid tribute to the Master of the Music, Mr Stuart Nicholson, the Organist & Assistant Master of the Music, Mr David Leigh, and all choir members, for their magnificent contribution to the worship. Dean Morton also expressed appreciation to the staff of the cathedral for implementing the necessary Covid precautions.

Dean Morton said: “We are delighted to be welcoming back our choristers. It is through worship that we are given a glimpse through the gates of heaven; these gates seem to be open even wider when our prayers are lifted heavenward by the voices of our choir.”

This Friday, 18th September, is Culture Night, and the cathedral will be open for self–guided tours. Booking is essential owing to the current Covid–19 restrictions. Further information about all the events taking place can be found at www.culturenight.ie or the cathedral website www.stpatrickscathedral.ie

A video of last Sunday’s Choral Evensong will be available on Saint Patrick’s Facebook page for 5.30 pm on Friday.
