Celebrating Harvest in this Exceptional Year

Celebrating Harvest in this Exceptional Year
As September greets October we look to the time of Harvest Thanksgiving. As part of these United Dioceses celebrate Harvest under Level 3 restrictions, the Diocesan Youth Ministry Development Worker and the Diocesan Young Adults Coordinator, Susie Keegan and Greg Fromholz, have suggested a number of resources which may be of use to parishes in this exceptional year.

The resource on the Dublin & Glendalough Youth Council Website helps guide people in reflection and learning, gratitude and next steps. They also recommend the following: https://josierobinson.com/journal/how-to-use-a-gratitude-jar and https://josierobinson.com/journal/family-gratitude-jar

These resources can be used by individuals, small groups or family groups.

The Revd Ken Rue has prepared a Harvest Songs of Praise Service which can be used in the home. It gives scripture verses to contemplate and links these with well–known hymns on Harvest themes. Click here to download the service.

In a recent joint statement to mark Harvest (click here for statement) the Archbishop of Armagh and the Archbishop of Dublin commited to praying the following prayer daily and with an invitation for others to join us:

‘Heavenly Father, Lord of all creation

We thank you for the coming of the harvest

And for those who maintain the provision of food.

Enable us to become better stewards of your creation,

Thinking always of our legacy to future generations.

Mindful of the unequal burdens borne by the old and the sick in this emergency

Inspire us also to be unsparing in giving ourselves in the service of our neighbour

And in support of all who continue to work on the frontline

In government, in hospitals and care homes, and in the community.

All this we ask in the Name of your Son, the servant of all.  Amen.’
