Statement by Archbishop Michael Jackson as Churches in Ireland Prepare to Reopen
Churches can reopen for public worship (with restrictions) from Monday May 10. Archbishop Michael Jackson wishes parishes well as they prepare to welcome people back through their doors:
“As churches in Ireland prepare for opening again from Monday 10th May 2021, we rejoice with all those of every Faith Tradition who will soon be able, after a long period of absence, to return to worshipping God in person.
“For each and every one of us, it has been a long time of loss and a frustrating time of patience. “
I wish to thank the people and clergy of the dioceses for continuing worship in these times of being away from the House of God which we love and which means so much to us.
“The Season of Easter is the time of hope. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ speaks of a hope in a new life. It is our duty to live this new life of faith, hope and love in our world of every day.
“I wish all parishes and communities well as you prepare to open up. I am confident that you will welcome those you know well and those who will be new to you in the coming days and weeks.
“Church life is no different from other parts of life in that we must stick to the Public Health Guidelines. This is to enable us to respect and to protect others as well as ourselves.
“I look forward to meeting all of you again as this time of hope and of excitement becomes a time of meeting and of friendship.”
