Disestablishment 150: In Conversation with the Archbishop of Dublin

Disestablishment 150: In Conversation with the Archbishop of Dublin
Archbishop Michael Jackson

As the National Programme for Disestablishment 150 draws to a close, co–ordinator Caoimhe Leppard met the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr Michael Jackson, who championed this three–year programme from the beginning, to reflect on its defining highlights.

The programme of events has been prepared and rolled out since 2019 in order to enable members of the Church of Ireland to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Disestablishment in our generation.

In this conversation, they discuss why the word ‘commemoration’ was used to mark this anniversary and how ‘Free to Shape our Future’ emerged as the tagline for this programme and what it means.

They also reflect on their own highlights of the National Programme and the wonderful contributions that were made to it from across the Church, and on the continuing opportunities that this programme continues to offer, including moving from commemoration to celebration.

The video is available to watch below and more information on the Disestablishment 150 initiative can be found at www.ireland.anglican.org/d150
