Porvoo Members Gather in Spain
Archbishop Michael Jackson is Anglican co–chair of the Porvoo Communion’s Contact Group. The group is currently meeting in Madrid. Here the Archbishop reports from the first day of the gathering which officially gets underway tomorrow (Tuesday October 10).
The Porvoo Communion organizes annual consultations of the members of the Porvoo Contact Group and of other members of the Signatory Churches.The 2023 Meetings are being held in Madrid.
Our thoughts and prayers are rightly overshadowed and filled by the news in Israel and in Gaza.
The theme for this year is: Life in The Eucharist. The Episcopal Church of Spain is a long standing signatory of The Porvoo Agreement and we are guests of Bishop Carlos and the cathedral community.
The cathedral stands in Calle Beneficiencia opposite a market and theatre.
Inside there is a plaque in recognition of the work of Archbishop Gregg of Dublin and Glendalough in the establishment and sustaining of the life of the Spanish Church.
This evening and tomorrow are dedicated to meetings of The Porvoo Contact Group and we will discuss issues relating to transitivity in preparation for the Consultation in Sweden in 2024.
