Exploring Santigo de Compostela

Archbishop Michael Jackson has been in Madrid as part of the Porvoo Communion’s consultation. The business of the consultation has concluded and he is being shown around the Anglican diocese of Spain, which has strong connections with Dublin and Glendalough since its foundation, by Carlos López Lozano. Here the Archbishop reports on the sixth day of his visit.

Today gave an opportunity to explore with Bishop Carlos Santiago de Compostela.

In the cathedral he and I were invited to robe for the main celebration of the Eucharist at which the celebrant and preacher was the bishop of Guantanamo.

From the cathedral we went to the Anglican Pilgrim Centre which houses around fifty pilgrims and has been full on a daily basis since opening in the spring. I was invited to bless the centre.

After further exploring the city and its churches, we attended Evensong in the Church of St Susanna which is situated on a hill where the Portuguese Pilgrimage reaches the city. The chaplain is the Reverend Ana Noon.
